  • In Q4 2016 there were exactly as many advertised vacancies for lawyers at Silver Circle firms as there were at Magic Circle Firms.
  • While increased demand from TMT firms for in-house lawyers drew most attention, vacancies for in-house lawyers in the Public / NFP sector grew faster, up 36% year on year.
  • Although all sizes of firms had fewer vacancies in 2016 than 2015, the fall was smallest in medium-size firms, which accounted for 49.7% of all vacancies.

Rugby fans in both England and Wales were celebrating last weekend, but how much did banking sector recruiters there have to cheer about last year? That’s the question we look at in the next of our reports about 2016, this one co-produced with Laurence Simons and covering the Legal sector. While 2016 might not have been a year to look back on with undiluted pleasure, there were pockets of growth, some of which were more widely noticed, such as demand for in-house lawyers from the TMT sector, and some which may be more of a surprise. The details are all in our report.
