After three strong years, the legal sector has slightly slowed down

Melbourne has been the most affected as hiring has shifted to Sydney.

The beginning months of 2024 have shown a decrease in recruitment compared to the post-pandemic boom seen in 2021-2023. Despite a dip in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Australian legal market experienced robust growth over the following years.

Key findings include:
  •  A significant increase in Litigation and Dispute Resolution roles, with a monthly average rise of 18.4% compared to the previous year.
  • Brisbane has emerged as the fastest-growing city for legal vacancies, seeing over a 50% increase compared to 2019.
  • The one to watch is Herbert Smith Freehills, which has seen a remarkable 206% surge in vacancies in 2024 compared to the previous year.
