With a new Government now in place, Q3 has proven to be a record quarter for vacancies. As a result, the forecast is for an increase of 27.6% compared to 2023. London is slightly outperforming the rest of the country, as corporate finance also picks up.
Spotlighting London, the surge in recruitment from the moment the election was called is visible, with June and July having record volumes of new vacancies over the period. Similarly, the summer surge is also remarkable when compared to 2019, the last business year before the pandemic.
By role, there has been a significant surge in Real Estate vacancies in 2024 across the country, with totals increasing by 57.9% compared to last year. As a result this now makes up 22% of all the vacancies. Other areas which are worth mentioning include Litigation and Employment.
Outside of London, the North West remains the largest region and has had an increase in activity of 21.6%. However, Yorkshire is the region with the most explosive growth, with vacancies increasing by 39.3% compared to last year.
Charles Russell Speechlys has been the most active firm so far this year, for all vacancies nationally, with 137 posts, whilst recording 13% annual revenue growth in the year ending 30 April 2024. The other stand-out firm is Fletchers Solicitors, who are on track for five times more vacancies this year than last.
