Hiring Market: Insurance sector outperforms financial services in 2023

The latest Insurance UK Labour Market Trends report, prepared in collaboration with Harrison Holgate and Vacancysoft, is echoed in the recent article by Maria Ward-Brennan published in the City A.M.

Vacancies in insurance have decreased by 15.1%, demonstrating the sector’s resilience compared to a 30% decline in financial services.

However, Matthew Waters, managing director of Harrison Holgate, highlights:

“2023 has been another busy year for the industry and although hiring volumes have reduced somewhat from the previous year, there remains key skill shortages across the sector.”

What are the roles in demand then?

The insurance sector saw a significant growth in AI job roles. Back in 2019, AI and data roles accounted for 13% of all IT vacancies, but this figure rose to nearly 19% by 2023.
